Support Services Available

Health Services

Laurier's  are the home of all physical, emotional, and mental health services for students on our Waterloo and Brantford campuses. Students can access a number of wellness professionals to enhance their health and wellbeing, including doctors, registered nurses, counsellors, and access to chiropractic, massage and physiotherapy services. Referrals to other local practitioners and specialists are also available.

 

Counselling Services

 at Laurier’s Student Wellness Centres include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, using short-term, goal-directed counselling, crisis intervention, and crisis management. For students with ongoing or first-time mental health challenges, Laurier has a mental health nurse and case manager. Laurier also has a Mental Health Education Group that works to develop strategic initiatives which empower students to create innovative, peer-to-peer mental health programming.

 

Student Success Programs

Laurier’s student success programs include assistance with , , and . Most of these services are delivered in small groups or in individual consultation settings and are designed to encourage the sharing of ideas and peer learning.

 

Laurier 101

 is a collection of programs specifically tailored for incoming students that support them from the time they accept their offer until the first week of classes and beyond. It includes course registration webinars, summer webinar series, Hawk Talks with senior students, and orientation week.

 

Library Services

The offers various resources for students including databases, journals, e-books, and e-videos. The librarians are available to provide students with one-on-one research help.

 

Academic Advising

 is for all students; for those facing challenges and those doing well. Laurier offers students the ability to visit central academic advisors, program specific faculty advisors, professional staff advisors or even their associate deans. Laurier’s mission is for undergraduate academic advising to support and enable students to create, refine and realize an academic plan that is informed by and aligned with their goals and aspirations, with the expectation that students are responsible for their academic path.

Residence and Housing

On-Campus Housing

Residence is guaranteed to students who are attending postsecondary for the first time, provided they apply by the deadline. Residence on the Waterloo campus is comprised of both traditional- and apartment-style residences. Residence on the Brantford campus is apartment-style, which means you will have a kitchen to cook meals in. All students living in residence must purchase a mandatory . Accessible Accommodations

Students who require special consideration in the room assignment process based on a documented medical need or disability must submit a completed Residence Disability and Medical Verification form as part of their residence application. Campus Accessibility

Waterloo Transit

Laurier students receive a student card, called a Laurier OneCard, which acts as a bus pass for the local regional transit systems. In Waterloo,  (GRT) is comprised of buses and the ION light rail.  are offered for every transit route that GRT provides. The GRT provides the , which allows users to have instant access to real time transit information.

Accessibility

GRT provides  with features such as low floors, kneeling features, and a ramp. Users who require a support person to travel with them, can apply for the , which will allow the support person to travel with the user free of charge.

The GRT also offers the  which is a door-to-door transit service for persons with mobility impairments. MobilityPLUS travels within the Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge city limits. Brantford Transit

In Brantford,  is comprised of buses. There is also a train station located near the campus.

Accessibility

 is a service for registered people who cannot access the planned route transit service due to an accessibility issue. Our bus operators will assist you to board the bus.
