While every student’s strengths and needs are unique, there are some common challenges experienced in the post-secondary environment by individuals with specific disabilities. The disabilities discussed in detail below are some of the most frequently seen diagnoses in the post-secondary environment. We appreciate that the list is not exhaustive and we are working to add information on additional disorders.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect the regulation of attention, activity level, and/or impulses.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a life-long neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the way a person communicates and relates to the people and world around them.

A Learning Disability (LD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder which affects the development of basic academic skills, including reading, writing, and/or math.

Mental health disorders are conditions that affect feeling, thinking, and mood. They may be transient (short-lasting) or chronic (long-lasting). They can affect an individual’s ability to relate to others and function each day.
