Residence and Housing

On-Campus Housing

McMaster University’s  offers residence to 3,600 students in 12 traditional style residence buildings. Residence is not guaranteed to first year students and operates on a lottery system. Approximately 3,000 spaces in residence are reserved for first year students. McMaster University offers themed, co-ed and single gender floors, with the majority of first year students being placed in double rooms. Residence units include single and double rooms with shared or communal washrooms. All buildings include:

  • Common lounges
  • Common study rooms
  • Common kitchens
  • Access to a 24/7 front desk
  • Maintenance
  • Laundry facilities

All rooms are furnished and include internet access and local telephone service. Residence rates vary depending on the building choice and room style.  are mandatory and are included in the cost of residence. Various plans are available and operate on a declining balance system.

Barrier-free rooms are available for students with special accommodation needs. Students are required to fill out the Special Accommodations Request form online when applying for residence.
