Going into university, I put a lot of emphasis on the academic transition. However, I found the adjustment to university life quite challenging to balance academics with physical health, mental health, and social involvement. Once I acknowledged this, I sought help from various on-campus resources and actively worked on these areas. Once I had achieved a balance in these aspects of post-secondary life, I found that I felt more connected with the student community and I noticed that my academics improved as a byproduct. This taught me that focusing on wellness is important, which is a value I’ve kept with me throughout my entire undergraduate experience and into my early career years.
